Recasting is often weird. Whether the new Daario Naharis on Game of Thrones or the new Mat Cauthon on The Wheel of Time, it can be disconcerting to see a new face and hear a new voice where you’d expected something familiar.
But sometimes, recasting has bit of brilliance. William Hurt made a fine General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there was always… another. An actor who seemed to be exactly the right person for the role.
And now, rumor has it that Harrison Ford may be stepping into those shiny military shoes.
Writer Jeff Sneider posted the news on Twitter, via The Hot Mic, a podcast he co-hosts:
UPDATE via THE HOT MIC podcast: We're hearing Harrison Ford HAS, in fact, been cast as Gen. Thunderbolt Ross, who is expected to make his first appearance in… CAPTAIN AMERICA 4.https://t.co/lCaywJyP6G

On /Film, Jeremy Mathai writes that the site “can independently confirm” the casting news.
There is, of course, a Marvel movie called Thunderbolts coming up, and one might reasonably assume some connection between the team of semi-villains and the general with an awfully similar (though separately obtained) nickname. In the comics, Ross does lead the Thunderbolts for a time—as Red Hulk. So weird how there was just a reference to a Red Hulk on She-Hulk, right?
At any rate, adding Harrison Ford to the MCU almost feels like an inevitability. Star Wars (above), Blade Runner, Indiana Jones—why not add another major franchise to the resume? And we’ll only have to wait until 2024 to see him, reportedly.
